In the first half of this year, China’s clothing exports were generally low, but after undergoing a process from weak to steady and gradually picking up, by the middle of the year, the number of exports and the amount of exports in the first half of the year have reversed the trend of a year-on-year decline.
According to the China Garment Association, China’s exports of clothing and accessories totaled US$79.846 billion in the first six months of the year, an increase of 4.29% year-on-year and a fall of 9.11 percentage points from the same period of 2013.
In the first half of 2014, the economy of the world’s major advanced economies continued to recover, market demand continued to rise, and China’s clothing exports also increased. In the first six months of this year, China’s clothing exports to the EU, the United States, Japan, Hong Kong and other traditional markets totaled US$468.34 billion, an increase of 5.42% year-on-year, accounting for 58.65% of total national apparel exports, and the share increased by 0.63 percentage points.
It is worth noting that as the economic growth of major emerging economies continues to slow, market demand is also affected. In the first six months of this year, China’s clothing exports to ASEAN, Russia, Brazil, Mexico, and other emerging markets totaled US$11.129 billion, an increase of 1.32% year-on-year, a decrease of 59.16 percentage points from the same period last year.
The industry expects that in the future, due to the lack of endogenous impetus, the lack of expansion of external demand and the spillover of policies from developed countries, the economic growth of emerging economies will further slow down, and their demand and consumption of Chinese clothing will also be further suppressed.
